Production increased tenfold

Boulder, Colo. (July 9, 2013) – Earlier this summer, the Sun Cups crew packed up every last bit of chocolate and moved production across town to a much bigger and better space. The Boulder-based gluten and nut-free chocolate company decided to close the door to their original factory in an effort to meet rising demands and growth.

“It’s just fantastic, everything is better in this space, from the camaraderie, the straight-line production, the new wrapping machine, even down to the loading dock. The efficiency in production is tremendous,” said Founder David Lurie. “In addition to being 100% gluten, nut and soy free, which is obviously our first priority.”

Wait, straight-line what? Not to get too technical, but the new space’s length allows for one line of production. So instead of hauling the in-progress chocolates from one side of the factory to another, the crew is able to keep the process flowing. Ultimately getting more done in a shorter period of time.

Another result of the move was the addition of a cold-seal packaging system that had previously been in storage due to size constraints. Instead of packaging around 30 chocolates a minute, close to 400 Sun Cups are now flying through the system in that same amount of time.

“It was important for us to stay in Boulder. That’s where we were born, where we live and we just love it here. Plus step outside and see the view of the Flatirons, you can’t beat that.” said Lurie.
